The XT of Syncro literally stands for extra tough, indicating that this exceptional monofilament is highly abrasion resistant and durable.

The breaking strain quoted on each spool is an easily achievable knot strength, appropriate to its diameter. However, with carefully tied, mechanically superior knots like the five turn grinner, average breaking strains can be significantly increased as indicated below.

10lb (possible 15lb), diameter 0.30mm

In the search for a robust mono that would sink and not let me down in the weedier spots of my new syndicate, I was recommended the Syncro XT.

After a good soak in warm water it spooled up really easily and, despite it being 15lb, it bedded down quite nicely on the spool. I’ve since used it on several occasions and it has performed exactly how I need it to. One particular carp decided to charge through a hefty marginal snag just prior to netting, but the line held firm despite lots of grating.

My two waters are only small, so do not demand any lengthy casts – this is not a casting line – but what they do require is a strong, reliable line, and Syncro XT has ticked both of those boxes so far. I also get the impression that it’s one of those lines that will improve with age.
